So my math lessons are going really well. Yesterday, I got the kids really excited about squares (which sounds harder than it is) “They’re like the shape-shifters of quadrilaterals because they take on all the properties of the other shapes”. Today we played a couple games to review all of their quadrilaterals. Always, Sometimes, Never was a lot harder on them than the other...
So This is That Moment
Where I realize working on the school play (which should be pretty awesome), writing lesson plans, and working on SMART lessons at school (because SMART makes my MacBook fail and this SMART board hates Powerpoint…) is going to take way more time than I thought it would. Yay, student teaching! I’m going to get a calzone.
So An Update (Since I Haven't Lately)
Student teaching is still awesome. I say student teaching- I have a read-aloud and review morning work (even then, I misspelled amphibian in front of my kids). I have so many stories I could tell: -a student yelling “I’m a crab!” while he sidestepped and made pinching motions -that same student being yelled at for zombie walking at me because the teacher “thought we...
So Far, I Really Like My 5th Graders
But when I go to start a read-aloud book for the class, don’t download it to your Kindle so you can read ahead. K, Thanks.
Guess Whose Running the Sound Board for the 5th...
This guy. Turns out only the director and the school principal were trusted to touch the sound board so, I get to be that student teacher who helped with the 5th grade play. On a related note, if anybody in the greater Charleston area wants to come see ‘My Homework Ate My Dog’ the weekend of the 10th and 11th, it’s a pay what you will deal, and the show should only be about an...
I Just Wanted to Add
1/3 of my students have e-readers. Are you serious? They’re in 5th grade.
First Real Day Went Well
The students remembered me. Some even said they missed me, or they were happy I was back. I have my own teacher desk- sure, it’s just a table in the back with my own rolling chair, some tape and a pencil cup, but it’s mine (The only actual downside was that it had a thin layer of glitter on it). I was actually stunned by how awesome having a teacher desk felt. The kids were going a...
So I'm 50 pages into the Hunger Games...
Does anybody feel like we keep going back to the dead father a bit much… Just really beating you over the head with that… “Then I walked through the doorway. My father used to go through doors like that. That is, until he died in the mines.”(p. 47) …Okay, it’s not a real quote, but it very well could be…
